She’s waited patiently since she was 4-years-old, anxiously watching as her two older sisters played volleyball in our community rec league. For four long years she has paced the sidelines, loyally playing the role of stray ball fetcher. Practice after practice, game after game, she has been her sisters’ biggest cheerleader. She’s even run laps and done jumping jacks at the same time as her older sisters. She’s watched, and waited, and waited, and waited some more.
This week, the daunting Itsy Bitsy Spikers had their first practice of the new season. Coach Shelly’s team was UNDEFEATED last year and hope springs eternal for another fun season.
What was Emma looking forward to the most? The end-of-practice huddle and cheer. She had practiced it countless times with Shelly after the most mundane of accomplishments. But this week, for real, Emma’s turn finally came.
