It didn’t start out this way.
When I first arrived at the Turkey Spur of West Virginia’s New River Gorge, clouds were quickly gathering overhead.
I figured I would hang around long enough to see if it might blow over. No such luck as a thick, white wall of rain started to obscure the ridge to the west.
It was moving fast, but almost as quickly as it had approached, it was past, leaving nothing but the rainbow behind.
It was a surreal experience, watching the rainbow retreat with the clouds, eventually vanishing beyond the next ridge.
From start to finish, it all lasted less than 10 minutes. But sometimes it’s worth getting rained on in the mountains.
